  A first course in the concepts and methods of statistics with illustrations from across the humanities and the social, behavioral, and biological sciences. Specific topics include numerical and graphical descriptions of data, association between two variables, normal distribution, correlation and simple linear regression, and inference methods such as confidence intervals and hypothesis tests for one sample mean and one sample proportion, chi-squared test of independence, and ANOVA. Recommended as a general education statistics course for students majoring in social and life sciences, but not limited to students in those majors. Not open to students who have passed SCM 200, MAT 217, or MAT 375 or to math majors. Prerequisite:    Math Placement Test Score of 3 or Higher

Emphasis placed on functions and their graphs with special attention to polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions, and analytic trigonometry. Upon completion, students should be able to solve practical problems and use appropriate models for analysis and prediction. Not open to students who have successfully (C or better) completed MATH211.
