  Focuses on various issues related to interpreting for specialized populations and situations. Populations that present unique challenges for sign language interpreters include Deaf individuals who have experienced language deprivation and the use of atypical language. Specialized situations including mental health, medical, legal, vocational rehabilitation settings, working in interpreting teams (Deaf and hearing), and performance/platform interpreting. This course will consist primarily of lectures, discussions, guest speakers, demonstrations, and role-plays. Prerequisite:    ASLI365 OR ASLE365

  Integrates interpreting skills previously developed in ASL365 Consecutive Interpreting. The students will be able to identify when to use ASL versus contact signing, incorporating strategies to clearly convey English content, and match the consumer's mode of communication or language preference during interactive interpreting settings.   Apply knowledge, skills, and dispositions during an interpreting placement with a mentor. Due to our accreditation under the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education (CCIE) the mentor must be a nationally certified interpreter or in the educational setting must have a 4.0 or higher on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment. The mentor will provide feedback and professional guidance to the interpreting student while getting hands-on experience interpreting in the field. Prerequisite:    ASLI420
