Designed for students who nearly meet the placement criteria for WRIT103 or for students who self-select in order to receive additional support in a required 1-credit co-requisite course.   Introduces students interested in working as writing consultants to writing center theory and practice, writing in the disciplines, issues of language diversity, writing processes, conventions, and expectations. Pairs the study of writing center theory with experience shadowing writing sessions in order to prepare prospective consultants to work effectively with writers in the process of communicating within multiple contexts.

  Explores theories and practices of writing center work related to a particular topic beyond the introductory course for writing consultants. Students read, explore, and create texts responding to the semester topic and aspects of their work as consultants. Topics may include the following: theories of learning and consulting, tutoring asynchronously, grammars in tutoring writing, discipline-specific writing practices, writing center resources, or writing center scholarship.
