This course is a survey of major existentialist thinkers and traditions in philosophy, beginning with Hegel, and including such thinkers as Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Simone de Beauvoir, Albert Camus, Jean Paul Sartre, Martin Heidegger and Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Themes addressed include authenticity, bad faith, freedom, anxiety, nihilism, mortality, existentialist ethics, phenomenology, humanism, perception, the body, and truth. Core: AH.
