CHEM 260: Biochemistry

In this course, emphasis will be placed on the chemistry of biomolecules and their utilization in intermediary metabolism. The principles of bioenergetics and the integration of metabolic control are developed. This course is lecture-only and is intended for students majoring in chemistry, biology, or who intend on pursuing a career in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy or other health-related field.

This course provides students with an opportunity to do supervised undergraduate research of a topic of interest. Students will utilize the principles, laws, and theories of general chemistry to successfully analyze samples provided using selected instrumental methods. The student will need to be competent to follow a standard procedure, to operate the instrument in a safe manner, to collect suitable data, to evaluate the reliability of the data collected, and to report the results in an appropriate form as would be required of a competent laboratory technician. Repeatable; may be taken 2 times.
