  This fourth level pre-professional course advances the competencies gained in DANC 321 and is for the student who demonstrates a strong technical foundation and accurately performs both classical and contemporary ballet material with consistency while implementing artistic choices. Students will connect and evaluate their understanding of the history of ballet to contemporary issues. This course may be repeated for a maximum of 6 credits. Course content will be different each semester. Students will be required to attend certain dance events for this course; some may require a fee.

Students will analyze the political and social undercurrent of jazz dance in America. This course may be repeated for a total of 6 credits. Course content will be different each semester. • DANC 425: Senior Capstone I: Dance Research

  Advanced level research, writing, and discussions will lead to the development and presentation of the student's senior project. Readings and discussions on dance philosophy, aesthetics, leadership, and arts advocacy will be the basis of this course. Practical experiences in resume and grant writing, graduate school applications, interviews, and career planning will be covered.

  This fifth level course is for students who can demonstrate total integration of technique and performance, including sensitivity to aesthetic concepts. Students will focus on the following: a continual refinement and advancement in the level and knowledge of technique, quality of performance, and aesthetic concepts; a clear understanding of dance as a profession and demonstrated professionalism and maturity.   This BFA capstone course will include advanced-level research, writing, and discussions, and will lead to the development, production, and presentation of the student's senior project. The course will include practical, theoretical, philosophical, and artistic resources applicable to a professional career in dance or related field, and include an emphasis on the University's Student Learning Outcomes.
