How and why does someone get diagnosed? This course will explore all these questions and more as students will explore mental health in the context of American society past and present with implications for the future. Current issues and trends in mental health and wellness will be explored including the current mental health system in America, advocacy for mental health issues and treatment, stigma in society related to mental health, how issues of diversity impact mental health and treatment, and how the topic of mental health impacts individuals and society.
