HTT 110: Introduction to Histotechnology

This course will provide an overview of the essential theoretical and practical aspects of the histology lab. The student will be introduced to the correlation of cells, tissues and organ systems in histological practices. This course includes and introduction to the lab workflow, OSHA safety regulations, instumentation, fixatives, stains, biological, chemical and hazards. The student will acquire the essential concepts of approved standards of practice needed to work safely in the lab. The purpose of this course is to build on Introduction to Histology(HTT-110) and prepare the histology technician student for the clinical experience in the summer semester of the program. In this course, general laboratory techniques, safety and professional issues will be reviewed and expanded upon. Contemporary topics in histology will be discussed. The course will cover introductory basic concepts and procedures used in each of the major areas of the histology laboratory. Prerequisite: Take MAT-130; Minimum grade D.
