This course is a central service certification preparatory course. The student is introduced to the expanding roleof the Central Service Technician as it relates to all areas of the institution. This course includes an introduction to the anatomical systems and medical terminology as they relate to hospital equipment. Theory includes basic anatomy and the corresponding equipment, inventory management and distribution, risk management, reusable versus disposable products, inventory control, purchasing, off-site warehousing and regulatory agencies. There is a review of all aspects of central service including sterilization, disinfection, packaging, instrumentation, human relationship skills and teamwork. This course requires a per credit health career fee; check the tuition and fee schedule for the current rate.
