  This course is designed to introduce aviation to the novice student.Students will learn the origins of aviation through present day and into the future.Students will be provided an overview of each major course comprising the Aviation Technology program.Subject matter pertaining to airspace, navigation, meteorology, aerodynamics, safety, legal, systems and cross-country planning will be introduced.In-class learning will be reinforced using Redbird Advanced Aviation Training Devices, with simulator hours interspersed throughout the semester.The course will conclude with discussions regarding vocations in aviation such as commercial pilots, air traffic controllers, aviation management personnel and Unmanned Aerial Vehiclepilots. New students will have the opportunity to experience aviation prior to deciding their career choice.

  This course is a study of the principles of flight, specifically covering all data to obtain a Private Pilot Certificate as regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA Part 141). Students must successfully pass the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Exam in order to advance to future FAA certificates and ratings. This courserequires a minimum 5 total hours of supervised flight instructionin the simulatorlab for each student. Corequisite:    AVT 103 or as approved by the Aviation coordinator

  Minimum 35 flight hours This course provides the student with flight instruction and experience at a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Part 141 approved flight school. Students complete the dual and solo flight time requirements including preflight and postflight briefings and required stage exams. Students must pass the FAA Private Pilot Practical Exam to obtain a Private Pilot Certificate in order to successfully complete the course. The FAA requires aminimum of 35 hours of flight timein this course; however, the actual flight hours may vary based on student proficiency. A valid Second Class Medical Certificate is required to begin this course. Corequisite:    AVT 101

Students utilize all available current and forecasted weather data including reporting data to promote safe flight. The impactof various weather phenomena including but not limited to the effects of air pressure, temperature, moisture, fronts, thunderstorms, hazardous weather conditionsand related meteorological phenomena on flight are studied.

Included arethe necessary flight training and requisite stage exams in order to prepare students to pass the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Instrument Pilot Practical Exam that is required to obtain an instrument rating and successfully complete the course.All training follows FAA Part 141 regulations. The FAA requires a minimum of 35 flight hours for this course; however, the actual flight hours may vary based on student proficiency.   In this course students study air navigation by beginning with a review of pilotage and dead reckoningand continuing through the use of available radio guidance systems, flight directors, on-board radar, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Area Navigation (RNAV), Lateral Navigation (LNAV), Vertical Navigation (VNAV)and Flight Management System (FMS). Both New Generation and analog systems are studied. Plotters, navigation computers, sectional and en route charts and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) publications and manuals are explored.
