The first of a two-part, post-graduate, course sequence for certified dental assistants and licensed hygienists, this course covers the placement of temporary and permanent restorations using a variety of dental materials; finishing techniques; the construction of bleaching and and fluoride trays; and mouth guards. Students also prepare for the expanded function dental assistants' state certification examination. A course fee is required. Graduate from an accredited Dental Assisting Program with faculty recommendation, Certification as a dental assistant, Licensure as a Dental Hygienist, or two years of clinical experience within a general dental practice.

  Focuses on the clinical practice. This clinical experience provides students with an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom and in laboratory sessions in a dental office environment. Students are assigned to work in area dental offices two days per week for a total of 224-hours. Students are able to gain additional experience in chairside techniques, dental material manipulation, and patient management at both general and specialty practices. In addition, periodic seminars are provided on campus for for students to share experiences and to discuss situations and/or problems encountered in the dental office setting.   Introduces students to the concept of hospital pharmacy practice. This course presents the evolution of the pharmacy technician occupation as well as some basic terminology used in various locations within a hospital environment. Course topics provide an overall understanding of the management of hospital onsite and offsite compounding facilities. This oversight is done to maintain and achieve adherence to all regulatory requirements for sterile and non-sterile compounds, such as chemotherapy medications and pediatric IVs, which require specific knowledge of aseptic technique and calculations. Topics also cover health system software and equipment, using pharmacy management software, repackaging technology and medication safety within hospitals. Prerequisites: HCW 028 ???
