  This class will immerse the student into an interactive environment where they will be shown how to scan , test, hack and secure their own systems. Topic content gives each student in-depth knowledge and practical experience with the current essential security systems. Students will begin by understanding how perimeter defenses work and then be led into scanning and attacking their own networks, no real network is harmed. Students then learn how intruders escalate privileges and what steps can be taken to secure a system. Students will also learn about Intrusion Detection, Policy Creation, Social Engineering, DDoS Attacks, Buffer Overflows and Virus Creation. When a student leaves this intensive class, they will have hands on understanding of the current elements involved in ethical hacking.

The course prepares students for introduction to cyber security coursework by exposing them to the fundamental architectures and designs for modern networks. Topics covered will include networking fundamentals, network implementations, network operations, network security and network troubleshooting. Students will use operating systems and networking tools to complete lab exercises. Lecture will include online videos and exam preparation tools for the CompTIA Network + certification exam. As a resource, students will have access to CompTIA CertMaster CE Network+, an online study platform. CompTIA Network+ is accredited by ANSI to show compliance with the ISO 17024 Standard and, as such, undergoes regular reviews and updates to the exam objectives.
