  Provides officers with a refresher course for the 24-hour EVOC Driving course. This course is designed to cover pertinent topics that were presented in the full course, such as pursuit driving and operations, laws of motion and vehicle components. Officers must have taken the full course within the past three (3) years to be eligible for enrollment into this refresher course. Officers are to pass a written test on the subject. In addition, they are required to demonstrate the new driving techniques taught on the driving range.

  As the need for education and training of municipal police officers increases, the Senator John J. Shumaker Public Safety Center at HACC ??? Central Pennsylvania???s Community College continues to serve successfully as a certified police training center under the Municipal Police Officers??? Education and Training Commission (MPOETC). In-service cadets are those individuals employed by a municipal police department or another law enforcement agency. These individuals are enrolled by the employing agency. Pre-service cadets are those cadets who attend on their own and are responsible for tuition and other expenses The college offers both a full-time and a part-time academy at the Senator Jeffrey E. Piccola Law Enforcement Complex on the Harrisburg campus. *Upon successful completion of the Municipal Police Academy, the student is eligible to receive 21 credits upon enrolling in HACC???s Criminal Justice Transfer Associate degree curriculum. (Courses: CJ 104, CJ 201, CJ 205, Criminal Justice Electives, and Physical Education Electives ).

  Instructs students in the theory and practice of firearms training in order to prepare them to effectively instruct law enforcement officers. Lastly, students prepare and deliver several lessons on which they are evaluated. Successful completion of this course allows students to be certified by the MPOETC as a department or academy firearms instructor.

This two-hour online course is designed for the civilian who is new to handgun ownership and is the precursor to HACC???s Basic Handgun Marksmanship and Safety for Civilian (In-person Range) course. NOTE: After completing this course, it is highly recommended that the student schedule the Basic Handgun Marksmanship and Safety for Civilian (In-person Range) course immediately to get the most out of each ??basic?? course.

  Covers information that defines and recognizes a critical incident and proper reactions that operate in the interest of preserving the health of the officer and of their family. Participants explore the impact a critical incident may have on an officers life, identify the acute and delayed reactions to critical stress, recognize the potential for Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome, review confidentiality, legal and denial concerns of an officer that may inhibit their ability to handle a critical incident, identify support activities that may serve to mitigate the negative effects from a critical incident, and review key concerns in preparing critical incident reports. Students must have completed the Commission's Basic Firearm's Training Program. This course is not taught by HACC.
