    This course introduces the fundamentals of nursing which include: the components of the nursing process; critical thinking; and clinical judgement. The nurse uses these fundamentals to develop good clinical reasoning skills required for desired patient outcomes. Students are introduced to the basic nursing need of patients, and the independent and dependent nursing actions they can perform to meet those needs. The fundamentals of direct patient-centered care using the nursing process to guide safe, competent, legal, and ethical nursing practice are introduced. Administration of fluid, electrolytes and solutions, nutritional formulas, intravenous delivered medications will be the primary focus in this course. Specific nursing responsibilities related to administration of intravenous therapy are emphasized, including medication calculations and the role of the nurse in monitoring of intravenous fluid. Identify and demonstrate the use of equipment that support IV therapy, including peripheral access devices.
