This course introduces the fundamentals of nursing which include: the components of the nursing process; critical thinking; and clinical judgement. The nurse uses these fundamentals to develop good clinical reasoning skills required for desired patient outcomes. Students are introduced to the basic nursing need of patients, and the independent and dependent nursing actions they can perform to meet those needs. The fundamentals of direct patient-centered care using the nursing process to guide safe, competent, legal, and ethical nursing practice are introduced. Students are given the opportunities in clinical settings to apply assessment and communication skills, and technology while beginning to implement basic nursing care interventions
