This course examines how people can keep themselves healthy, as well as research in the field of health management from theory to practical application. The approach is biopsychosocial, beginning with an overview of the systems of the body, followed by exploration of health related behaviors, health compromising behaviors, stress and coping, pain management, and patient-provider relations, among other related topics. While social and psychological components comprise much of the investigation, the biological basis of health and disease is the orienting focus of the course, with a major emphasis on the understanding and reduction of stress.
