This interprofessional course provides an in-depth study of alterations in physiological, cellular and biochemical processes that manifest as disease for students interested in healthcare. Emphasis is on the inter-relationships among organ systems. Content builds upon knowledge from basic sciences to facilitate transfer of knowledge to clinical practice.

    In this course, students apply knowledge to develop an evidence-based approach to professional nursing care in the community. Health promotion, risk reduction, and disease management will be analyzed using clinical judgment and the nursing process to provide care to diverse individuals, families, inclusive population groups, and communities.

    In this clinical course, students demonstrate application of theory content from previous courses in acute and community mental health settings. Students build on their knowledge and skills to develop a broader perspective on the use of therapeutic use of self in promoting maximum levels of behavioral, physical, and spiritual health in individuals and their families. This course must be taken concurrently with Community Health Nursing and Psychiatric & Behavioral Health Nursing.

    This course prepares students to provide care to children, adolescents and adults experiencing psychiatric/behavioral health problems and coping deficits in acute and community settings. Emphasis on the psychological development, psychopathology, patient education, treatment modalities and therapeutic nurse-patient relationships.

    This experiential learning course engages students in application, synthesis and evaluation of knowledge and skills obtained in their academic studies. The course also provides the opportunity to begin transition from student to graduate nurse. Professional growth and contribution to the nursing profession is emphasized. Students complete a 135 hr clinical practicum with a Registered Nurse preceptor and develop an evidence-based project related to their clinical experience. Prerequisite:    Specialty course blocks related to the specialty chosen. For example, if the capstone is in behavioral health nursing, the Psychiatric/Behavioral Health block must have been completed.

    Students will explore the principles of research. The course exposes RN students to ethical and practical aspects associated with conducting nursing research. Students will utilize select databases to explore new and existing knowledge. Students will critique current research to determine its applicability to professional nursing practice.

    The course focuses on the role of the RN as a leader in a changing healthcare environment. Theories/principles of leadership are explored & applied to nursing practice. RN students apply concepts of motivation, change, communication, empowerment, ethics, & clinical thinking in a proposed change to practice applicable to diverse healthcare systems.

    This course focuses on the health promotion of individuals and groups from an epidemiological perspective. Nursing and health promotion theories are used as the organizing framework. Cultural and diversity factors will be addressed. RN students will develop an evidenced-based, interprofessional health promotion care plan for families.

    This course utlizes epidemiology principles of nursing and health related theories relevant to addressing health promotion at the community level. RN Students will explore concepts of social justice, health disparities, globalization, environmental factors, and genetics on the health of communities when conducting a community assessment.

    Students will design a capstone project that reflects the application, synthesis, and evaluation of concepts and nursing practice issues, including concepts of health promotion, studied throughout the program. Emphasis will be placed on the application of educational experience for professional growth and contribution to the nursing profession.
