Four hours of rehearsal per week; more rehearsal as needed in weeks leading to performance. Each course number may be repeated up to five times.

Mastery of basic theoretical analytical techniques, Roman numeral analysis, and figured bass composition leads to a study of two-voice counterpoint and its application in four-voice part writing using tonic and dominant harmonies.

Through harmonic analysis, form analysis, and composition, students will apply these methods to representative works from several historical stylistic periods, emphasizing the historical evolution of forms from the Renaissance through the late Romantic and into the present day.
