If you complete the following with AP - Advanced Placement:

  • The AP English Language and Composition course is designed to help students become skilled readers of prose written in a variety of periods, disciplines, and rhetorical contexts and to become skilled writers who can compose for a variety of purposes. By their writing and reading in this course, students should become aware of the interactions among a writer's purposes, audience expectations, and subjects, as well as the way generic conventions and the resources of language contribute to effective writing.

You may receive up to 3.00 credits at Community College of Beaver County:

  • Students will practice expository writing and learn the academic form of the essay and research paper. Students will focus on the development of an academically sound and challenging thesis and resulting essay. The mechanics of writing will be reviewed as needed. Pre-requisite: PREP 025 as determined by high school records or placement testing. Honors Option Available English Composition Honor students will practice expository and persuasive discourse in writing and learning the academic form of the essay and research paper. Students will focus on the development of a sound thesis for projects concerning topics of global or international significance. 3-0-3
