This course explores the historical experiences of the peoples from Latin America and the Spanish-speaking Caribbean, and those of their descendents, in the modern United States. The focus of the course will be to compare and contrast the twentieth-century experiences of the four largest Latino populations: those who can trace their heritage to Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
