This course explores multiple approaches social workers use to influence organizations and other large systems. Concepts, theories and models of macro level practice and advance practice skills for addressing complex social and organizational situations are examined. Application of course content is facilitated by a practicum experience in a practice agency where concepts and skills from this course can be applied. Instructional methods may include but are not limited to lectures, readings, papers, reflections, and role plays. The course may be offered in a distance education format.   Provides an introduction to the concepts and procedures that are fundamental to both descriptive and inferential statistics. Empirical research examining the effectiveness of social work practice, particularly in the urban environment, is explored. Utilizing existing national data sets, students generate their own research hypotheses and then formulate and carry out an analytic strategy to answer these questions effectively. Emphasis is also placed on gaining skills in presenting and communicating key findings to relevant audiences and stakeholders. The course is designed for graduate level social work students.   Provides an educationally directed field experience for students during their first semester in a field agency. Students will engage in generalist practice skills working with vulnerable and oppressed populations and begin foundational development and application of problem-solving, assessment, intervention and evaluation. The course is designed for graduate-level social work students and involves a monthly seminar experience in conjunction with the agency work. The course includes bimonthly seminar experience in conjunction with the agency work.   Provides educationally directed opportunities to demonstrate advanced mastery of social work competencies and application of knowledge and social work ethics and values in specialized settings. This final field experience is a compilation of knowledge, skills, and values developed from previous field experiences in the program and emphasizes advanced cognitive/affective dimensions of learning. The focus of this course is to provide opportunities for students to operationalize advanced year social work skills in the agency setting to ensure competency upon graduation. The course includes a bimonthly seminar experience in conjunction with the 250 hours of practicum study within an agency. Instructional methods may include but are not limited to presentations, experiential learning activities, discussion boards, online activities, seminar workshops, synchronous and asynchronous lectures.
