  This course offers a rapid review of basic structures of the Spanish language. Its main objective is the development of skills in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding Spanish with relative fluency. The course continues to introduce students to Latinx, Afrolatinx and Spanish cultures. The course requires three hours of lecture per week and one hour of lab instruction.

Students in this course improve their Spanish listening reading, writing and speaking skills in an analytical context as they investigate historical, sociocultural, spatial, artistic, literary, economic and political approaches to power, language, nation, gender, race and human rights in Spain and the Iberian Peninsula.

  This course will introduce students to the major writers and literary trends in Spain from the Medieval Period to modern times. Students will acquire general knowledge of methods of literary criticism and analysis of literature. In addition, students will research history, literature and culture throughout these periods in the Iberian Peninsula and Spain.
