This course addresses the use and abuse of drugs in our society. Substance abuse and its consequences will be examined from an inter-disciplinary approach: psychology, pharmacology, sociology, economics and education. This course will introduce personal and social life skills (decision making, communication, and coping skills) critical for prevention and intervention efforts. Additional course components include: drug prevention, program development, implementation, and evaluation. Guest speakers from varied academic departments (psychology, sociology, biology, economics and political science) will be utilized as well as community health practitioners.
