  Introduction to Forensic Science explores the science of forensic science techniques using a structured and scientific approach to the investigation of crimes. Types of evidence such as hair, fibers and textiles, fingerprints, DNA profiling, blood spatter, handwriting analysis, and ballistics will be investigated examining specific techniques used to collect, analyze and evaluate evidence.   This course introduces students to foundational knowledge and skills in organic chemistry including the structure, nomenclature, properties, preparation, and reactions of the major classes of organic compounds. Classes studied include saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons, halides, alcohols, ethers, and common organic acids and bases. Identification of all common classes of organic compounds is presented using infra-red spectroscopy. The laboratory component of the course includes procedures and techniques dealing with non-aqueous systems, synthesis, purification, separation, and qualitative testing. Prerequisite:    CHE 150
