The basic concepts and principles of evolution and ecology. Topics include natural selection, genetic variation, macro- and microevolution, population genetics, evolutionary stable strategies, species concepts, biodiversity, extinction, reproductive strategies, population dynamics, the ecological niche concept, predation, competition, mutualism, parasitism, coevolution, biogeography, disturbance ecology, and ecosystem structure and function. 3 hrs. lec., 3 hrs. lab.
Prerequisite:
BIOL 101 or 100 with a grade of C- or higher; B- or higher in BIOL 100 for biology majors; C- or higher in BIOL 211 and BIOL 221; MATH 151, 160 or math equivalent; ENGL 110.
