This course provides coverage of the structures and aesthetics of the Romantic Period and an introduction to 20th-century practices. Reviews chromatic harmony, introduces mode mixture, enharmonic spellings and modulations found in the late 19th century. Includes an introduction to melodic and metric reduction and modulus-twelve analysis. The study of Romantic and selected 20th-century examples of music will be done through singing, ear training, improvisation, composition, analysis and keyboard performance.
