Archaeology is the study of the human cultural past through the analysis of the material left behind by past societies. The course will survey world prehistory from the evolution of ancestral hominin species through the rise of ancient civilizations. The ethical, legal and political issues involved in conducting archaeology in the United States today will also be explored.
