The primary focus of this course is to learn techniques and procedures for proper tuning of pianos using musical industry approved methods. Emphasis is placed upon ear-training for aural tuning and the correct use of electronic tuning aides. Recognition of the various factors that affect pitch stability and tuning durability are presented.

To gain a deep understanding of these, the student will listen to and analyze historical musical examples and engage in 'hands-on' work, using software applications to compose and produce songs.

Topics include history of music education in the United States, philosophical underpinnings of what we do as musician educators and why we do it, on becoming a musician teacher, fundamental psychology of learning and teaching, developing tools for teaching, early childhood music, elementary and secondary classroom music, instrumental music, choral music, multicultural music education, diverse learners, and developing instruction. Special emphasis is placed on helping the music education student in developing one's own philosophy of music and music education, and how being a music teacher requires one to be both a fine musician and a fine teacher.
