Advanced Practice domains of clinical practice, teaching and coaching, consultation, intra and interprofessional collaboration, care coordination, conflict resolution, research, nursing theory, leadership, quality improvement advocacy, and ethical decision making are explored. The reciprocal interrelationships among theory, theoretical frameworks and conceptual models, practice domains, and research as integral components evidence-based advanced nursing practice, education and leadership are investigated

    Provides conceptual orientation and knowledge of techniques from epidemiology as a basis for all aspects of population-based practice in advanced nursing. The epidemiological perspective presented as a framework for assessing the well-being of populations and designing, implementing, and evaluating strategic nursing and health care interventions. Students will apply basic epidemiologic research designs in the investigation, analysis, and proposed solutions to observed patterns of health status.

    Provides a deeper understanding and critical appraisal of nursing research for application to evidence-based practice.n++ Application of the steps of evidence-based nursing practice is stressed.n++ The proper formation of Population Intervention Comparison Outcome Time (PICOT) questions, learning how to search relevant data bases for evidence, critically appraising the evidence, and synthesizing research findings are emphasized.n++ Development of a plan for implementation of the evidence and/or generating additional evidence to improve nursing practice is addressed.

    Provides the central concepts of physiology and pathologic mechanisms of disease that serve as a major component in the foundation for clinical assessment and management of individuals across the lifespan. The focus of the course is on etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, evaluation, and treatment of commonly encountered acute and chronic clinical conditions. Evidence-based research regarding pathological changes in disease states is synthesized and applied to current advanced nursing practice.

    Provides the fundamentals of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of drugs across the lifespan affecting all body systems. Prescribing and monitoring procedures for various disease states are presented. Classification of pharmaceuticals, indications for use, and drug efficacy are reviewed. Rationales for drug therapy based on the physiologic factors of disease processes and drug mechanisms will be discussed. Adverse reaction, interactions, nutritional, developmental problems, and health status will be explored. Legality of prescriptive privileges, and patient teaching are addressed.

    Provides an overview of the national framework for School Nursing practice and the role of the school nurse. Attention is given to the school nursing roles and responsibilities within the context of public health nursing. The focus is on the implementation of the framework based on local and state mandates and laws. Emphasis is placed on the relationship of the framework and Healthy People objectives.     Focuses on the exploration and application of population-focused public health nursing practice and role development. Participates in analysis of current public health practice issues and the operationalization of health policies and advocacy to influence the health of populations. Integrates leadership principles and comprehensive public health knowledge to inform decision-making for improving population health. Functions independently and in collaboration with others who influence the health of populations. A clinical practicum of 180 hours is required.

This course focuses on the synthesis and use of managerial principles, organizational behavior, management information systems and financial accounting related to healthcare administration for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality healthcare. The practicum experience within this course provides application of theoretical and practical knowledge to provide nurse leaders to meet the demands of ongoing and changing patient care services management with complex adaptive systems.

In addition, the course addresses issues related to the role of the nurse practitioner in primary care.
