  This course emphasizes the practical application of the law. It examines the dynamic balance of power between the government to enforce the criminal law against the rights of the individual to come and go as they please without government interference. Specific emphasis will be placed on the difference between laws that deal with persons and that of property as well as criminal liability and defenses to criminal liability. Students will evaluate theories of delinquency, interdisciplinary communication, and diversion of selected juvenile offenders from the formal justice system.
