    This is the second of four courses that introduces students to the fundamentals of the various systems used in the process industry and the interrelation between the types of equipment that are assembled to operate within a process system. Course topics include natural gas and fuel gas systems, steam generation and boiler feedwater systems, steam distribution and condensate systems, electrical power generation and distribution systems, relief and flare systems, and refrigeration systems. Students will gain knowledge utilizing small line drawings and P & ID's for each system. Safety, troubleshooting, production scheduing, and quality/efficiency considerations and strategies will be addressed throughout this course. 1-1-1 Prerequisite:    PTEC 250

Course topics include distillation systems, combustion systems, extraction systems, adsorption systems, absorption and stripping systems, and reactor systems. Students will gain knowledge utilizing small line drawings and P & ID's for each system.     This is the fourth and final course of the Process Systems series that introduces students to the fundamentals of the various systems used in the process industry and the interrelation between the types of equipment that are assembled to operate within a process system. Course topics include centrifuge systems, crystallization systems, filtration systems, drying systems, material storage and blending systems, and environmental compliance systems. Students will gain knowledge utilizing small line drawings and P & ID's for each system. Safety, troubleshooting, production scheduling, and quality/efficiency considerations and strategies will be addressed throughout this course. 1-1-1 Prerequisite:    PTEC 252

    This third of four courses, in the PTEC 260 series, builds upon the concepts covered in the Instrumentation I series (PTEC 180-183) and provides the student an introduction to Programmable Logic Controls (PLC), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and Instrumentaion Power Supply. The concepts covered in this course provide the student with an understanding of the instrumentaion used in the process industries and the basics of troubleshooting process control systems. 1-1-1 Prerequisite:    PTEC 106 or PTEC 261

    This course introduces the student to the typical concepts of quality underlying the operation of a process industry and the history of the quality movement in the United States. Topics include an introduction to process quality, variability concepts, process capabiity, variables control charts, attributes control charts, and customer expectations.     This course provides a selection of additional introductory/key concepts of quality underlying the operation of a process industry and introduces the student to the most common/basic quality improvement tools, explains how designed experiments are used for collecting data, highlights the purpose of a root cause analysis and function of root cause analysis tools, and describes Six Sigma project stages and their key improvements. The course also highlights the importance of teams in the process industries and how teams affect quality. 1-1-1 Prerequisite:    PTEC 270

    This third and final course in the Principles of Quality series provides more introductory/key concepts of quality underlying the operation of a process industry and introduces the student to management systems and continuous process improvement, quality reliability planning, lean manufacturing and lean tools used to eliminate waste, and quality costs. This course gathers all of the concepts and tools highlighted in PTEC 170, PTEC 171, and PTEC 172 and explains how these concepts and tools work together to improve quality 1-1-1
