An introductory course investigating the design and creation of mechanical and photo-realistic 3-D images for print production, interactive presentations or animation. Complex blending and wrapping of words and images around objects is readily created in the digital medium. Students learn how images and type may be rotated, made translucent, filled with an image, overlapped, com- posited, extruded, airbrushed, or created from scratch. Students explore modeling techniques including polygonal and spline-based approaches to develop mechanical models of objects and organic forms. Includes combining textures, bumps, decals and reflection onto objects to create the desired effects. The interchangeabil- ity of image and type gives verbal and visual communication a new language with which to work.
