    This course emphasizes key issues and challenges concerning the teaching of language and content to English language learners. It offers students a variety of research - proven strategies in order to address the mulitple learning needs of English language learners. Taking a step-by-step approach to teaching English language learners, this course also provides students with the basic understanding of surrounding the teaching learning process and English language learners and students of other languages and culture. By presenting ways to modify and adapt their instruction , this course offers students the tools they will need to teach the same content and curriculum to other native and non-native English speaking students.     This course explores approaches to building partnerships for educating children. Candidates develop problem-solving skills by exposing them to challenging situations that require them to negotiate sensitive issues. Opportunities are provided for them to work in schools and communities to develop valuable communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with families with very different backgrounds from their own. The applications of research skills to develop a better understanding of families and communities, and to use information to develop family involvement activities and to create supplemental materials for classroom use is also emphasized.     An institutionally-credited reading course designed to help students acquire and improve those reading skills necessary for college-level coursework. Students will expand their reading skills beyond the literal comprehension level by improving flexibility and efficiency, effectively recognizing main ideas to read an article or chapter and remember its key points, reading actively and critically , to explore memory techniques, and responding in writing to our language with greater vocabulary depth. This course is designed as an upper-level reading course. Students who successfully complete this course must be able to demonstrate that they can successfully read and comprehend college-level reading material. The Distance Learning Version of Intro Interpretation & Analysis to be offered as an "On-line" course which more than 80% of instruction will be completed outside the classroom.

    Introduction to the teaching profession for students who are considering teaching as a career choice. Students investigate the teaching profession in very specific ways by assessing the meaning of professional and profession; their motives and aptitudes for teaching; the challenges teachers face in striking a balance between emphasizing achievement and the improvement of society; the need for teachers to become involved in facilitating the growth and development of students; and the conditions and teacher behaviors that contribute to positive learning environments. The course concludes with a discussion of professional organizations and associations; integrity and ethical behavior; and communications effectively with parents/guardians, business and industry, and other agenices and the community at large to support learning by all students. Special attention is given to the historical, philosophical, political, social and cultural history of the education system in the United States. Course topics include legal and ethical and civil rights issues in education in America. Within our diverse society, the impact of racial,ethnic and cultural diversity of schools is a crucial area of examination. The connective relationship between the past history in education in Americn Society and the influences on today's school will be emphasized throughout the course. The use of critical thinking skills, engagement in reflection, and constructivisit teaching act as common course structual threads.
