    This course will introduce students to graphic design principles and practices including design thinking, ideation, conceptualization, typography and layout, and examine ways to integrate them into students' educational and future professional studies. Students will investigate the field of graphic design and the role of graphic design in visual communications including branding, advertising, presentations and other printed and digital collateral.

    This course builds upon foundational graphic design techniques and teaches the skills required to animate illustrations, type and design elements in a variety of forms. Motion Graphics studies the design of time-based graphics and incorporates kinetic type theories, sound usage, video and film production techniques and traditional and digital animation techniques.

    This course will focus on HTML/CSS/JavaScript standards-based web development. Students will learn to separate content from presentation and to design effective communication that may be displayed on a variety of devices and browsers. The course will focus on current practices and accepted standards, but also explore evolving technologies. This course covers terminology, syntax, and best practices for coding websites and generating content for deployment on the world wide web. A minimum of 6 hours of work outside of class is required per week.

    This course is an intermediate-to-advanced course which will continue to build on the concepts and skills established in CDE 022 Introduction to Digital Design I. CDE 122 Introduction to Digital Design II will augment skills required to proceed with further professional growth in the Communication Design industry as well as introduce additional and more complex material. Introduction to Digital Design II will concentrate on the creation and manipulation of both vector and raster graphic images as well as expand on the more highly-evolved editing capabilities of various layout applications. This course may be taught either as a half-semester course or as a full semester course.

Students will learn to translate their digital prototypes into functional interactive experiences. Student will utilize modern web technologies to generate designs appropriate for various devices, browsers, and platforms. The course will focus on the development of interactive projects to create a rich and meaningful user experience.

A variety of idea-generating techniques are explored with emphasis upon quick visual exercises to stimulate fresh thinking.
