The information presented is an unofficial guide to how courses may transfer. Other factors to consider are grades received in the courses, the year in which the course was taken, and the major pursued after transfer. In all instances, final decisions about acceptance of course credit will be made by Community College of Allegheny County.

If you complete the following with AP - Advanced Placement:

  • This course is designed to be the equivalent of a college introductory biology course usually taken by biology majors during their first year. Some AP students, as college freshmen, are permitted to undertake upper-level courses in biology or to register for courses for which biology is a prerequisite. Other students may have fulfilled a basic requirement for a laboratory science course and will be able to undertake other courses to pursue their majors.

You may receive up to 4.00 credits at Community College of Allegheny County:

  • This course introduces students to atomic structure, important bioorganic molecules, enzymes, cellular structure and function, cellular reproduction, genetic principles and biotechnology. Selected topics include an overview of cellular biochemistry, with emphasis on cellular respiration and photosynthesis. The accompanying laboratory program allows students to practice scientific procedures by conducting investigations which are coordinated with lecture topics. This course transfers to most four-year institutions.
