Provides a comprehensive overview of the distinctive health care needs of pregnant persons and newborns. Focus is on the nursing care of childbearing persons and their families through pregnancy, birth, and the six weeks after birth. Focus of the newborn explores their behavioral and physiologic adaptations to extrauterine life. Students use critical thinking, effective communication skills, information and technology, and assessment findings to provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to pregnant persons, neonates, and their families.
