Introduces the student to the role of the associate degree nurse as provider of care and member of the discipline when working with childbearing individuals and families. Emphasis is placed on identifying alterations in basic human needs and applying the nursing process to the promotion, restoration or maintenance of health throughout the phases of the childbearing process. Common health problems of newborns and of women in each phase of childbearing are explored. Opportunities to practice related skills are provided in the campus laboratory. A variety of health care settings provide the student with clinical experience in the care of the childbearing family.
