Institution:
Reading Area Community College
Subject:
Chemistry
Description:
This course is the second semester of a two-semester sequence of organic chemistry. In this course, we will build upon the foundation in organic chemistry by introducing more functional groups. The goals will be to further increase student skills in nomenclature, reaction mechanisms, functional group transformation, and multi-step synthesis. Topics include the study of carboxylic acids, aldehydes and ketones, amines, carboxylic acid derivatives, carbohydrates, amino acids and proteins, functional group transformations, electrophilic aromatic substitution, and nucleophilic aromatic addition chemistry.
