This course traces the development of English drama from its roots in the tenth-century liturgical service, Quem Quaeritis, through the late nineteenth-century plays of George Bernard Shaw and Oscar Wilde. The readings include famous works by Christopher Marlowe, William Shakespeare, Ben Jonson, Aphra Behn, and William Congreve, as well as lesser-known works, which had an important influence on the development of the drama
