CSWE guidelines require foundational coursework for Traditional students that focuses primarily on the development of generalist practice course knowledge, awareness of values, and basic skill development during the first year of the program. This course addresses the steps involved in the problem-solving process (engagement, assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, and termination) and how that process is applied to both individuals and families in various practice settings. The importance of strengths and resilience as well as the core values of the profession are highlighted in the course of applying this process model to practice. This course develops generalist practice knowledge. It focuses on the CSWE dimensions of learning that emphasizes knowledge, values, and basic skill development for first-year Traditional students.
