Description:
Introduces ionizing and non-ionizing radiation protection laws and regulations; historical, biological, and legal foundations; the key nuclear regulatory agencies; and current radiation protection standards and organizations responsible for their implementation. Describes nuclear fuel cycle; application of byproduct materials in medicine; radioactive waste disposal methodology; and emergency procedures. Reviews regulations dealing with shipment and transportation of radioactive materials. Appropriate for students in all majors. Three hours lecture per week.
