An examination of selected topics in precolonial African history, with the aim of introducing students not only to important personages, events and themes, but also to historical interpretation and method.-a It will be divided into six units ranging from prehistory to the eighteenth century, specifically: food and society, ancient civilizations, human migration, state formation, Islamic society, and the transatlantic slave trade.
