Description:
Raises consciousness of ethical issues in everyday life, suggests possible criteria for judgment, and stimulates critical thinking about ethical problems in communication within interpersonal, organizational, mediated, and public/political realms. Students are taught to engage in thoughtful assessment of the communication behaviors of themselves and others. Example course topics include lying and deception, appeals to human emotion in mediated and non-mediated contexts, coercive communication, privacy, and communication and civil liberties.
