Description:
Expands on concepts in microbiology and cell biology to provide a further understanding of microorganisms and their role in human disease. A systems-based approach will be used to examine the epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of disease-causing pathogens. Host defenses to infection will also be covered. The laboratory component is included to provide a working knowledge of a variety of clinical tests that are used to identify microorganisms.
