This course focuses on foundational knowledge needed to effectively teach phonics, grammar, reading comprehension, and writing composition to school-age students. The sound-symbol correspondences of the English alphabetic code, common orthographic patterns, and the origins of the English language will be examined. Semantic organization, discourse patterns, and common text structures are also explored.
