This course broadens students' understanding of the basic principles of ceramic practice and develops individual expertise in clay. Students learn to formulate and mix their own clay bodies and glazes, and fire various types of gas and electric kilns. Historical and contemporary ceramics are examined to demonstrate aesthetic concepts and to provide a basis for criticism in ceramics.
