Explores the challenges of risk and crisis communication before, during and after high profile events. The course emphasizes the practical and theoretical applications of media strategies used by companies, organizations, and governmental bodies before, during, and after crisis situations. The course focuses on the issues relevant to communicating risk through both new and traditional media strategies as well as planning and executing crisis communications and recovery plans. The course also introduces students to ethical accountability and informed decision making during crisis situations. Cases discussed will examine risk and crisis situations in business, political, educational and non-profit settings.
