This program is designed to prepare individuals for careers in the medical community (inpatient and outpatient settings) that involve medical billing coding or claims processing. Billing and coding specialist are responsible for translating and sequencing medical documentation into formal standardized, numerical codes for diagnoses and procedures. Coding specialist work closely with healthcare providers to ensure the accuracy of translation. Medical coding is a vital behind the scene activity that supports the billing process and quality patient care. The program focuses on advanced coding skills and preparing for certification in this field. The program is composed of six modules. Students taking this program are prepared to take the CPC certification exam for professional coders offered through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). A six-hour certification preparation course is provided at the conclusion of the program.
