This course is designed to prepare individuals for careers in the medical community inpatient setting that involve medical billing, coding or claims processing. Coding specialists are responsible for translating and sequencing medical documentation into formal standardized, numerical codes for diagnoses and procedures. Coding specialists work closely with healthcare providers to ensure the accuracy of the translation. Medical coding is a vital behind the scenes activity that supports the billing process and quality patient care. This course focuses on advanced coding skills and preparing for certification in this field. Students are prepared to take the CPC certification exam for professional coder offered through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). A six hour certification preparation is also included in this course.
