This program is designed to prepare individuals for careers medical community outpatient settings that involve medical billing, coding or claims processing. Coding specialists are responsible for translating and sequencing medical documentation into formal standardized, numerical codes for diagnoses and procedures. Coding specialists work closely with healthcare providers to ensure the accuracy of the translation. Medical coding is a vital behind-the-scenes activity that supports the billing process and quality patient care. The program focuses on advanced coding skills and preparing for certification in this field. Students taking this program are prepared to take the CPC certification exam for professional coders offered through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). A six-hour certification preparation course is provided as part of this program.
